Privacy Policy

PortionSense ("we," "us") is an AI-assisted nutrition tracking app. This policy explains what information we collect through the app and this website, why we collect it, and who we share it with.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, used for authentication and password recovery.
- Nutrition data you log: food names, calories, protein, carbs, fat, fibre, sugar, sodium, optional notes, and the date logged.
- Body metrics (optional): weight, waist circumference, body fat percentage, and height, if you choose to track them. These fields are entirely optional.
- Goals and preferences: your daily nutrition targets, unit and regional preferences.
- Subscription and usage data: whether you're on the Free or Pro plan, and how many AI photo analyses, label scans, and text logs you've used in the current billing period.
- Photos and descriptions you submit for AI analysis: see "How AI analysis works" below — these are processed but not stored.
- Usage analytics: in-app events (such as which logging method you use, or that a screen was viewed) collected through PostHog, to help us understand how the app is used and improve it.
- Waitlist signups: if you join the waitlist on this website, we store the email address you provide.
How AI analysis works
When you photograph a meal, describe it in text, or scan a nutrition label, that photo and/or text is sent to Anthropic (maker of the Claude AI models) to generate a nutrition estimate. Photos are not stored on our servers — they're used only for that one analysis request and then discarded. The resulting estimate (name, calories, macros) is what gets saved to your account, not the photo itself.
AI-generated estimates are just that — estimates. They can be inaccurate, and you can always edit any value before saving it.
Who we share data with
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider, which stores your account and nutrition data.
- Anthropic — processes photos/text you submit for AI analysis, as described above.
- PostHog — processes in-app usage analytics.
- Apple and Google — handle app distribution and, once available, subscription billing for the App Store and Google Play.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your nutrition history for as long as your account is active, since past logs power trend charts and progress views. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account. This is irreversible.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or export your data beyond what's available in-app. Email hello@portionsense.com and we'll do our best to help.
Children's privacy
PortionSense is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
